Condemnation Statement| The crime of Saudi coalition warplanes’ targeting on Al-Leil Market that consists of shops and a building for rest and sleep  in Wadi A’alaf  area  of Sahar District – Sa’ada Governorate – 1 -11- 2017

In a cruel, brutal crime  documented by legal center, the warplanes of Saudi Coalition Aggression targeted  sleeping people(in a building  for rest and sleep)  and commercial shops at night in  Wadi A’alaf area – Sahara district, killing and injuring more than 60 of people who were there for rest and sleep, and this is considered  a clear, grave, violation of international humanitarian law, which criminalizes the targeting of civilians, markets, shops and civilian facilities. It should be mentioned that purely civil nature of the incident place and the horrific number of victims confirm that Saudi coalition forces violated the principles and rules of war in accordance with international humanitarian law, including the principle of humanity and proportionality, which makes this crime amount to be described as a war crime and a crime against humanity. This crime is an extension of series of war crimes and genocides committed by Saudi coalition forces against Yemeni people during more than 950 days since the beginning of the aggression on Yemen.  Saudi Arabia and its alliance -throughout this period and  through using  their warplanes- deliberately  bomb the popular markets, shops, buildings of rest, and civil  facilities in many provinces of Yemen including them the bombing of Al-Shbab rest in  ​​Beit Al-Athri area – Arhab District on 23ed of August, 2017, in which 30 innocent people were killed, among them 7 Children and injured (20) Including 6 children. Legal Center for Rights and Development has documented about (581) markets,(240) Rest buildings and Hotels and (5956) shops that were bombed by Saudi coalition.

Legal Center for Rights and Development Condemns, denounces this heinous crime against humanity, holds Saudi Arabia and its alliance the responsibility of this crime and the pervious ones, and demands for  criminal investigation and accountability of the coalition leaders and all those whose involvement  be proved in these crimes. UN and Security Council also bear the responsibility for its shameful silence which encourages  Saudi-led coalition to continue committing more war crimes against civilians and civilian installations.

Legal Center renews its appeal to the international community, human rights organizations and all honorable and free people of the world to shoulder their moral and human responsibility in supporting the oppressed Yemeni people, condemning the horrific crimes committed by the Saudi Coalition and pressuring on United Nations and specifically the Security Council to carry out their legal and moral duty to protect civilians and civilian installations and to end the war and all forms of aggression on Yemen . We also renew our call for establishing an impartial international commission of inquiry to investigate all crimes committed by the Saudi Coalition Forces against civilians and civilian installations in Yemen.
