Yemen Conflict – ETC Situation Report #25 (Reporting Period: 01/07/18 to 01/08/18)

Highlights

• The Emergency Telecommunications Cluster (ETC) Information Management and Communications mission was conducted to Sana’a.

• The ETC is recruiting a second IT assistant to be based in the UN Common Accommodation Facility (UNCAF) in Sana’a to cope with the increasing demand for the ETC Internet connectivity service and support.

• The ETC continues to develop a project proposal for an additional Services for Communities (S4C) project in Sana’a University, which would involve the ETC rehabilitating the IT infrastructure at the university to allow students to continue their studies.

Situation Overview

The security situation in general remains tense and unpredictable, particularly in Al Hudaydah. The Humanitarian Coordinator has said that civilians in Al Hudaydah are at extreme risk.
Despite a difficult operating environment, between January and May 2018, some 169 international and national partners actively coordinated to assist people with the most acute needs in priority districts across Yemen’s 22 governorates. Together they have assisted over 7.5 million people monthly with some form of humanitarian assistance.
Between 27 April 2017 and 15 July 2018, there have been 1,121,143 reported cases of cholera with 2,215 associated deaths. Al Hudaydah governorate has the highest number of suspected cholera cases since January.
