Shelter/NFI/CCCM Cluster Monthly Situation Report – September 2018
Recent Situational Developments
The humanitarian situation in Yemen continues to deteriorate with three-quarters of the population requiring some form of basic assistance to survive. This month, over 19 Cluster Partners were working around the clock to provide Shelter, NFIs (Non-Food Items) and Site Management and Coordination Support to 75,825 of Yemenis whose lives have been uprooted by the conflict. Overall challenges reported were mainly regarding the strict import limitations on raw materials for mattresses (a crucial part of the NFI kit), the overwhelming numbers of newly displaced families, delays in sharing beneficiaries lists by local authorities, access to some IDP hosting sites and the alarming deterioration of the Yemeni economy including depreciation of the country local currency, unprecedented increases in the price of fuel and high inflation rate which put those vulnerable at a heightened risk. The humanitarian community called for immediate measures to stabilize the economy, support the exchange rate and facilitation of humanitarian actions in the country. NCCT (National Cluster Coordination Team) were on missions to Aden, Hajjah and Ibb governorates to support and empower Sub-National Cluster Coordination and Cluster Partners, assess current projects in the hubs and needs by carrying out meetings with authorities and Partners as well as conducting visits to IDP Hosting sites, providing technical support, capacity building to Cluster Partners on SMC (Site Management and Coordination) and participate in the Sub-National Clusters meetings. The SMC trainings were delivered in the three hubs to enhance the participants’ understanding of SMC and contribute to the development of Yemen IDP SMC Strategy also build on participants’ knowledge and understanding on their roles and responsibilities while providing services within the IDP Hosting Sites. Another IM training was delivered via video-teleconferencing on the 23rd of September for SNC (Sub-National Cluster) Partners in Aden Hub to boost their understanding on how to report their activities in the Cluster database through ActivityInfo. The CCPM (Cluster Coordination Performance Monitoring) online survey was launched on 5th of September and closed on 27th September. The process was supported by the GSC (Global Shelter Cluster). The survey participated by 58% of the Cluster membership and results will be discussed during the Cluster strategic direction workshop from 12th to 13th of November 2018.
