QRCS joins hands with Yemeni counterpart to provide health care in Dhale [EN/AR]
March 2nd, 2019 ― Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Yemen Red Crescent Society, in order to work together on a new project to provide health care services in Qa’atabah District, the Dhale Governorate.
Lasting for 11 months, the project is coordinated with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). It is estimated to serve up to 23,000 beneficiaries.
The MoU was signed by Dr. Mahiyoub M. Al-Mohammadi, the project’s coordinator, and Dr. Omar A. Ba’alawi, head of Yemen Red Crescent’s branch in Dhale.
It goals are (1) to provide medical and treatment services for the patients at the Gul Aldemh Health Center; (2) to provide remunerations and training for medical, technical, and administrative staff; (3) to bridge the gap in fuel, medicines, and medical supplies; and (4) to launch awareness campaigns.
“This agreement is part of a larger plan to support life-saving health care services in the governorates of Taiz and Dhale,” said Dr. Al-Mohammadi. “It is funded by the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF), an initiative managed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Under the plan, QRCS is to operate five hospitals in Taiz and six health centers in Dhale”.
Dr. Ba’alawi described the agreement as a “sign of effective social and humanitarian partnership, within QRCS’s relief, health care, and winterization portfolio in Dhale”.
According to him, QRCS cooperates closely with his National Society and the local health authority, which is in the best interest of the patients and internally displaced people (IDPs) in Qa’atabah and Jahaf Districts.
A series of activities will be done, at a total cost of $120,695 (QR 440,536), which include supplying 200 liters of diesel for power generation, supplying premises with 20 sq-m of water, procuring medical equipment and consumables, holding three training courses for staff, carrying out equipment and premises maintenance, referring critical cases to main hospitals, and paying monthly remunerations for 20 employees.
