Yemen – Conflict (DG ECHO, UN, media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 13 May 2019)

  • On 11 May, the Houthis began the redeployment of their forces from the ports of Hodeida, Salif and Ras Issa, in line with the agreement reached last December in Stockholm. UN teams are monitoring the process. Hodeida port is the principal entry point for both humanitarian aid and commercial goods in Yemen.
  • During the last week, clashes were reported along the front lines, in Hajjah, Al Dhale, Taizz. Daily clashes in Al Dhale have increased access constraints. On 11 May, in two separate incidents, 7 civilians were killed by shelling and air strikes, including 4 children and 2 women, and 17 injured. Clashes between the warring sides have forced civilians to flee their homes, and hostilities in the city are likely to cause further displacement and difficulties to access basic services. In Taizz, at least two Yemeni civilians were killed on May 12 in a bomb explosion.
